Articulation Textile Group

 Articulation Textile Group like most of us has maintained social distances, managed new paradigms in challenging circumstances, and found ways to continue on their creative journey, at work in their individual studio practices. I don't think I am alone in looking forward to gathering again in person after 2 or more years of Zoom connections. We are all grateful for the opportunity to keep in touch as we have but like textiles that benefit from in-person observation, so too do the makers. Here is a brief show and tell to share with you illustrating some of the projects that are underway.   Ingrid Lincoln has continued the covid theme that has seen her work with what she has on hand in the studio. She is experimenting with process, playing with colour, and balancing her energy between utilitarian and purely aesthetic projects. Lesley Turner is continuing to explore a new body of work about motherhood.  She is working with vintage wool blankets and dyes them to build a color scheme.

                                                                 Celebration of Canada       Like Canada Articulation`s membership is diverse. The members have come from various countries and provinces of Canada and work together to create work.       To celebrate Canada's 150th birthday Articulation created a body of work consisting of panels for each province and territory.  Each member made two panels for the province. The panels are double-sided and measure 25" by 80". They are best exhibited hanging from the ceiling. The panels exhibit different styles and techniques and demonstrate the many facets of textile work.        This body of work has been shown in Alberta at the Fish Creek Library. Unfortunately because of  covid -19 restrictions the work was viewed by only a few and the exhibition was closed during part of its run. It would be wonderful if they could find another outing.   Articulation Textile Group wishes you all the very best for 2022. May your New Year be off to a good start. We hope the coming months bring gentler times and good health into focus for us all. Winter wonderland: Lake Winnipeg 2021 Articulation Textile Group, like the rest of Canada, is navigating the fourth wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic. After all this time we are finding our respective ways through challenges, public restrictions and health directives. As summer wanes the new season brings the work of Articulation Textile Group into focus with shows mounting simultaneously in Sidney, British Columbia, and Melfort, Saskatchewan.   We are excited to announce, "Connected  Heritage" is being installed at the newly remodeled Sidney Museum, Sidney BC. The show will run from September 1st  to December 27th, 2021. The museum is open 7 days per week, 10am-4pm daily. Work on display in the newly renovated space at the Sidney Museum began with Articulation's study session in Gimli, Manitoba, in the summer of 2016. Members researched aspects of the immigrant Icelandic community that established itself on the shores of Lake Winnipeg after 1875 when almost 1/5th of the population left Iceland. The Manitoban community was granted reserve status and self-governed until 1887 when they were incorporated into Manitoba and all Icelandic descendants became Canadian citizens. Members have come and gone, and we are currently standing at six. Over the years we have had 30 shows, exhibiting in so many different venues and galleries across Canada and in the United Kingdom. A lot of our exhibits have been based upon yearly trips across Canada we called a Study Session, usually lasting for a week spent gathering images, impressions, and the essence of the places we stayed. From the BC’s Salish Sea; to the Alberta Badlands; to the farmland of southern Saskatchewan; to Manitoba for the Icelandic heritage in Gimli; to the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Old Quebec, a neighbourhood of Quebec City; to the shores of the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. All these trips (and more) were bonding experiences for our members and created a tight bond between us. I have selecte
