An Opportunity To Reflect: Articulation Textile Group in 2019

Image
I am a 20-year veteran YMCA swimmer who was greeted at the pond this morning with a question. Are you taking any time off over the break to rest? It got me thinking... do I ever really take a moment to take in the enormity of what the past year really was? Do we give ourselves an opportunity to reflect, to even acknowledge all that has taken place? Amanda Onchulenko, 'Reflection,' Connected Heritage , New Iceland Heritage Museum, Gimli MB If you're like me, you are too busy: thinking, planning and doing, figuring out, keeping up or imagining what is next, but my friend made a very good point. To honour my friend's query in this brief season that hangs between Christmas and New Years, I will take this opportunity for a contemplative review of what we as Articulation Textile Group were up to during 2019. 2016 Study Session: In Winnipeg

Image
Next stop in downtown Winnipeg was Mandy's fabulous studio. After a tour we settled down to eat lunches we had picked up at some unique eateries around the corner. Donna and Wendy walk on the rooftop to get a bird's eye view of central Winnipeg. One could do a historical study of just Winnipeg's walls. Just needs a 'bird on the wire' Wendy, Mandy, Donna descending.

Gimli - 2016 Study Session begins in Winnipeg

Articulation's annual study session was in Manitoba this year. It began in Winnipeg where we all gathered, flying and driving in from across Western Canada. Our first stop was in downtown Winnipeg at the North Forge Fabrication Lab. Multi-media artist Erika Lincoln was our tour guide. If you go to her website  Erika Lincoln - Lincoln Lab  you will see some of the work she has produced with the type of equipment in North Forge. North forge is part of "innovation alley" a two block section of Adelaide Street in the Exchange District that was instrumental in earning a large grant from the federal government recently. Erika showing us the raw materials used for laser printing. L.- R: Erika Lincoln, Lesley turner, Ingrid Lincoln, Leann Clifford Plastics for laser printing.

First Canadian Exhibition of Articulated Materials: Bridging Waters

Donna has just produced this great poster, using an image of Ingrid's work, to promote the 1st showing of  Articulated Materials: Bridging Waters. Didn't she do a great job. Cre8ery www.cre8ery.com is a contemporary gallery in downtown Winnipeg where the owner, Jordon Millar, works hard to ensure work shows well in her space. The exhibition is planned to coincide with the national Embroiders' Association of Canada's annual seminar being held in Winnipeg in May this year www.eac.ca

'Urban Textures' has opened

Articulation has a new exhibition on after a most successful opening. The Mennonite Heritage Centre Gallery and Archives is in a soaring wooden building. Ray, the director, knows his space well and placed each work to its advantage. This body of work is large enough to fill to the space.

The Hanging

Image
Today Articulation's Urban Textures body of work is being hung in the Mennonite Cultural Heritage Centre gallery, in Winnipeg. It will be the first time the whole body of work will be together. Articulation is a Canadian group of textile artists whose members live on 2 coasts and places in between. They produce their art in their own studios and it is only when there is a hanging that all of the work is sent to one place. It is always a thrill to see the work together, interacting with each other. Also, it is so interesting to see the different interpretations from the same inspiration that was gathered during our annual study week. The opening is on Friday September 18, 2009, where there will be members of Articulation is attendence. The exhibition is on until November 14, 2009.
