My favourite tree, the Arbutus. Love the layers of bark and how the bright green is hidden underneath, gradually revealed.






And because the Arbutus grows on windswept barren rock expanses, a tidal pool was right next door.






Piper's Lagoon Park... We found Garry Oak trees...







And, outside of Nanaimo, we found a Petroglyph Park...

In 1930 Weyburn Mental Hospital, Saskatchewan was the largest building in Canada. Post WWII battle disorders caused a peak of the in-patient population in the hospital. The Soo Line Historical Museum in Weyburn has a large room of artifacts from the hospital, many of which are rather horrifying. They also have a collection of art painted by patients as a result of the art therapy program. A project Articulation members are working on is a personal response to war. Some of the members are looking at how war affects the whole family not just those who go to war.  The Soo Line Museum proved to be a rich primary resource for some members. Social Fabric. Discovering Textiles at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto.

  Getting away without an agenda and a view to discovery is a favourite pastime of mine. I was recently in Toronto with some time on my hands so a visit to The Art Gallery of Ontario, (AGO) and the Royal Ontario Museum, (ROM) were on my personal agenda. I thought while we are in summer mode I would share a few images of artifacts I found inspiring. The architectural blend of old and new is the first thing I admired in the physical structure of both of these public spaces. Centuries of architectural thought and practice merged to curate space and light and make room for their respective collections. Frank Ghery's internal staircase at the AGO drew me on a circuitous route to the apex of the building in a celebration of design and simultaneously, contrast and uniformity.              The Articulation Textile Group is reconnecting, reflecting, and getting together to celebrate textiles. Detail "Summer Under the Maple" by Lesley Turner 2022 Articulation’s "Out of the Studio" exhibition is an opportunity to reunite our group after a pandemic absence. Our once annual gatherings at locations across Canada ceased in 2020, the year of our intended exhibition in celebration of 20 years of working independently, yet together, under the Articulation banner. Our plans to exhibit were shuttered necessarily but as the world reconvenes in new ways so too have our plans. The exhibition is open to VISDA conference attendees and invited guests only.
